Interdisciplinary honors program
I owe the honors program so much for allowing me the opportunity to participate in such a transformative and defining study abroad experience in Italy. Socially, I found some of the brightest, most supportive friends that will forever be a part of my life. Academically, the program connected me with Professor Friedman who showed me what it’s like to be intensely passionate about a subject and gave me the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and emerge as a leader in the classroom. Professionally, this program allowed me to see that I wanted to do more than teach high school math and guided me towards a double degree in economics and math, which has me currently pursuing a potential career in international development.
When I came back to Seattle, everything had changed for me. I finally felt connected to a community and was seeking an academic challenge. I was sitting in a training presentation with the Econ department and as they were describing their program, their goals and their learning outcome, I was in awe. I felt that the program would offer me the perfect combination of quantitative reasoning, with real life, social implication. The math coursework that I have been taking for the past year has been really unfulfilling and it has been such an enriching experience to find a field of study that both fascinates me and challenges me.
